Abstract

•Mg–Ni–Al hydrotalcites were prepared by homogeneous precipitation method with urea.•Derived mixed oxides were studied as catalysts in ethanol steam reforming.•A thermal evolution model for the solids is proposed from characterization results.•Mg/Ni molar ratio = 0.33 gives the best results of activity and carbon deposition.
