Abstract

Efficient oxidation of sulfides with sodium periodate catalyzed by manganese (III) tetrapyridylporphyrin supported on chloromethylatedpolystyrene is reported. This catalyst shows high activity in the oxidation of various sulfides to their corresponding sulfoxides and sulfones at room temperature. The effect of different axial ligands, oxidants, solvents, and catalyst amount was also investigated in this catalytic system. This heterogeneous catalyst can be reused five times without significant loss of its activity.
