Abstract

•New heterogeneous catalytic systems are highlighted.•Oxide hydroxide fluorides with various properties can be used as catalyst or support.•The Lewis/Brønsted acid sites ratio can be tuned with the synthesis parameters.•Tunable basic properties can be obtained on oxide hydroxide fluorides.•Bi-functional solid catalysts based on metal fluorides can be prepared.

Large range of catalytic systems can be obtained from metal fluorides and oxide hydroxide fluorides prepared by soft chemistry due to various properties, especially high specific surface area and tunable acid–base properties. This article highlights the promising properties of these systems for many heterogeneous catalytic processes which extends the catalogue of solid heterogeneous catalysts and supports for future industrial applications.
