Stability of NiAl layered double hydroxides derived catalysts for the steam reforming of methanol
Abstract

The stability of the NiAl layered double hydroxide derived catalysts with sodium or potassium ions for the methanol steam reforming in temperature range 300–400 °C was investigated. The as-synthesized precursor catalysts readily produce certain amount of methane that lower H2 production. However, the one with potassium can make more CO2 at high reaction temperature (e.g. 390 °C) but a switch from CO2 and CO production occurred in few hours. The calcined catalysts, especially with higher aluminum present longer life for several days with high level H2 and CO2. Carbon deposition is considered as main cause responsible for the change in product selectivity with time on stream.
