Abstract

In this study, the effect of methanol on the performance of a combustion-synthesized CuO–CeO2 catalyst in the preferential CO oxidation (PROX) reaction has been investigated. Methanol acts as an inhibitor of CO and H2 oxidation. This effect is more evident at high methanol concentrations and in the absence of CO2 and H2O in the feed. Complete CO and methanol removal can be achieved at 200 °C for a realistic reformate stream containing 15% CO2, 10% H2O and 0.1% MeOH at a contact time of 0.30 g s cm−3.
