Abstract

An very simple and effective procedure for the oxidation of alcohols was carried out at room temperature in water under solar light using Oxone® (2KHSO5 · KHSO4 · K2SO4) as oxidant catalyzed by KBr. Benzyl alcohol and its derivatives, benzhydrol and its derivatives, cyclopentanol and cyclohexanol could converted to the corresponding acids or ketones in high conversion and selectivity in 3 h.
