Abstract

Montmorillonite (MMT) supported Sn catalyst was prepared by ion-exchange technique. Ketones are oxidized by 30% hydrogen peroxide in n-butanol and transformed into the corresponding lactones with very high selectivity catalyzed by Sn–montmorillonite. The catalyst can be prepared in large scale in a simple manner without the utilization of any expensive materials and can be recycled.
