Abstract

•Transition metal free dynamic kinetic2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ol by the combination of Candida antarctica lipase (CAL-B) and Zeolite.•Duplicated use of the catalysts was possible using this system.•Two types of secondary alcohols were successfully obtained in high optically pure form with over 70% yields.

Transition metal free dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) of 1-phenyethanol and 2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ol has been accomplished by the combination of Candida antarctica lipase (CAL-B) and zeolite using vinyl octanoate or p-chlorophenyl pentanoate as acyl donor in a mixed solvent system of ionic liquid and hexane in the presence of 1.0 eq. of water. Duplicated use of the catalysts has also been demonstrated in the DKR of 2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ol using this reaction system.
